AP-1 Asphaltum Plus

This is the famous recipe from Coral Shaeffer's book "The Art of Cloisonne and Champleve Enameling" (with Patrick and Judith Lull Strosahl)

6 parts Asphaltum
3 parts Bees wax
1 part rosin

I have made and used this recipe myself for years, and can testify to its efficacy when applied properly. Full instructions included. I make small batches to ensure quality.

The asphaltum resists the acid, the beeswax keeps it supple and prevents it from chipping over long periods in the acid (tested up to 36 hours) and the rosin adheres it strongly to the metal.

Over two ounces by volume, but enough to last a year or more with constant use. Less than a teaspoon will do a more than a dozen jewellery sized pieces when thinned with a half and half mixture of turpentine and alcohol. Use tape to cover the back of your pieces.
