Medium Temperature – Medium Expansion Enamels for Copper, Gold, Silver, Low Carbon Steel & Metal Clay
Normal firing temperature range: 1400-1500ºF
Coefficient of expansion range: 258-360 cubic expansion
80 mesh is the standard size for this product. This means the the enamel is put through an 80 mesh screen, which will also allow other, smaller mesh sizes to go through. Therefore, each jar will contain various mesh sizes, up to and including 80 mesh.
To achieve their optimum opalescent these enamels need to be fired directly on copper. They should be fired high, to acheive transparency, and then low for a longer time (3 minutes or more) to achive opalescence. These enamels will not go opalescent if fired over other enamels, but can add a certain porelain like quality, especially effective in cloisonne.
